President's Message on Transformation Plan
19 March, 2024

There comes a time when an opportunity arises to transform for the better. This is such a time for the Singapore Recreation Club to cement its place in its long and illustrious history for the future.

Dear Member,

There comes a time when an opportunity arises to transform for the better.

This is such a time for the Singapore Recreation Club to cement its place in its long and illustrious history
for the future.

Since our founding in 1883, we have become an establishment that fosters camaraderie through sports
and recreation and a highly respected custodian of one of Singapore’s landmarks, the Padang.

As we celebrate our 141th anniversary this year, we have an added reason to transform our beloved club
and restore its former glory for the future.

Our plans for SRC Transforms 2024 include a comprehensive redevelopment programme that will chart
the club’s journey forward.

But why now, you may ask?

  1. Facilities are old and debilitated, resulting in structural problems, which we must address forsafety reasons. Piecemeal repairs are overly expensive, besides disrupting members’ activities.
  2. While the human elements at SRC remain strong, the hardware—our facilities, buildings, and sports fields—has seen better days and needs rejuvenation. In short, the club has become too old and is now a pale shadow of what it was and what it can be.

So, the pros outweigh the cons when considering why SRC should go forward with the SRC Transforms
2024 plans.

And, in case you think the transformation will only benefit some, I’ve news for you.

Our plans will touch on every aspect of the club and significantly improve every facet. When completed, they will create an environment that we can not only enjoy but also be immensely proud of.

Moreover, it will undoubtedly increase the value of our memberships even if you don’t frequent the club regularly.

Besides the facilities, food and beverage outlets and banquet spaces will be tastefully designed to
provide a classy ambience catering to the wish lists of young and old members.

More importantly, this transformation will not cost a King’s ransom.

With flexible payment schemes, this transformation plan comes at a very reasonable cost to each
Member.

But all this vision to keep up with our nation’s progress into the future will only be a vision without
your support.

Come vote for SRC Transformation 2024, 24 March to 26 March and make a difference.

Continue as a club struggling with our deficiencies, or be part of something exciting that increases the
value of our memberships.

It’s all up to you.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
Chang Yeh Hong
President
Singapore Recreation Club
